Ajax sign Bissouma on one-year deal after Tottenham exit

Ajax have signed midfielder Yves Bissouma on a one-year contract following his departure from Tottenham Hotspur. The 30-year-old Mali international joined the Dutch club as a free agent after his contract with Spurs expired at the end of the 2025-26 season. The deal, confirmed by Ajax on September 16, 2026, includes an option for an additional year. Bissouma's move to Amsterdam comes after a mixed tenure in north London. He joined Tottenham from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 for a reported fee of around £30 million and made 111 appearances for the club. His time at Spurs was marked by both on-pitch contributions and off-field disciplinary issues. He played a key role in Tottenham's 2025 Europa League victory, starting the final against Manchester United and helping the club end a 17-year trophy drought. However, his career was also disrupted by injuries and suspensions. He missed the first half of the 2024-25 season due to a knee injury and was suspended for the opening match of that campaign after posting a video of himself inhaling nitrous oxide.
