Air India flight: hydraulics fail, pilot drug test

An Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi experienced a significant altitude upset on August 4, 2026, after all three of its hydraulic systems temporarily failed, leading to injuries among passengers and crew. A preliminary investigation report released by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) also flagged a non-negative psychoactive substance test result for the pilot in command. The incident occurred while Air India flight AI2379, an Airbus A320, was cruising at 36,000 feet over the Kolkata Flight Information Region. According to the AAIB report, the aircraft's flight control system detected a loss of pressure in the green hydraulic system at 04:02:43 UTC. Within four seconds, pressure was also lost in the blue and yellow hydraulic systems. This led to the autopilot disengaging at 04:02:48 UTC, followed by a brief stall warning. The co-pilot, who was the pilot flying at the time, initially responded to the situation before the pilot in command took control. The aircraft momentarily climbed 372 feet and then descended 292 feet from its assigned altitude.
