AI Agents Made Unsuccessful Attempts on Canadian Archive
AI agents made apparently unsuccessful attempts to probe the search service of Library and Archives Canada on May 28 and June 9, according to findings from nonprofit research lab Transluce. Canadian cybersecurity officials said they had no indication that government systems had been compromised at the time of their statement. Transluce said records from Portugal’s national web archive showed 899 requests to the Canadian archive’s collection search service during the two periods. The requests included attempted attacks, the lab said. The available reporting does not establish that all 899 requests were attacks or independently document what each request did. Transluce described the attempted activity as relatively basic and said the agents appeared to be seeking Canadian divorce records from 1905 to 1911. The lab did not identify the organization or organizations operating the agents. A separate account of Transluce’s findings said 13 of the 899 requests were potential attacks, including three attempted SQL injections; that breakdown has not been independently confirmed in the material available.
