Acer CEO Sees PC Prices Falling in Late 2027

Published 22 September 2026

Acer chairman and chief executive Jason Chen says PC prices will rise 5 to 20 percent in the fourth quarter of 2026 before peaking in the first half of 2027 and potentially declining in the second half of the year, a more optimistic timeline than most memory industry executives have offered. Chen made the remarks in interviews with Taiwan's Economic Daily News and DigiTimes, according to reports published between September 21 and September 22, 2026. He argued that the broader memory supply shortage has largely run its course, saying it is impossible for the shortage to last until 2030. He said shortages are now confined mainly to high-end DDR5 modules such as LPDDR5X9600 and niche chips including Nvidia's N1 and N1X, while most RAM, SSD and CPU supply has caught up with demand. Chen acknowledged that component prices remain elevated and fluctuating, and that PC prices will continue climbing through the end of 2026, with possible further increases in the first quarter of 2027. He said supplier pricing lags consumer pricing by several months, meaning any relief would take time to reach store shelves.
