Abbott Elementary Season 6 Opens With Gregory’s Promotion

Published 10 October 2026

“Abbott Elementary” opened its sixth season with Gregory Eddie taking on the role of assistant principal, changing his working relationship with Principal Ava Coleman and adding new tensions among the school’s staff. The premiere, “Jungle Classroom,” also introduced a new teacher, Elsa Hardaway, whose arrival puts her at odds with Melissa Schemmenti over classroom space. The episode begins a school year in which familiar characters face altered responsibilities. ABC’s episode overview says Gregory and Ava adjust to their new dynamic, Barbara Howard turns to Jacob Hill for help, Janine Teagues makes over her classroom, and Melissa tries to win hers back. The new position places Gregory in school administration alongside Ava, who has led Abbott Elementary through earlier seasons. Elsa, played by Katy Mixon, arrives as a teacher who resists Melissa’s efforts to reclaim her former classroom. Their dispute becomes a new source of friction in the staff’s routines. The premiere also follows Janine’s effort to create a jungle-themed classroom, a project that draws skepticism from more experienced colleagues while she remains committed to it.
