Fire Country Season 5 Adds Olivia Thirlby as New Regular

Published 10 October 2026

Fire Country opened its fifth season on October 9 with Olivia Thirlby joining the CBS drama as CJ Ryan, its first new regular cast member since the series began. The season premiere placed her in Edgewater as a newcomer whose arrival, actor and co-creator Max Thieriot said, could bring a different perspective to the small-town story. Thirlby plays a firefighter from Philadelphia who arrives in Edgewater for reasons the show has not yet fully explained. Thieriot said the character’s outsider status could affect not only CJ but also the people around her. Her addition follows cast changes at the end of Season 4, when Stephanie Arcila’s Gabriela left town and Billy Burke’s Vince died. The premiere’s central emergency begins during the town’s Founders Day celebrations, when a sinkhole opens beneath Main Street. Station 42 responds to rescue people trapped underground. The danger escalates when firefighters discover flammable gas in a sewer tunnel, while the episode also emphasizes the station’s limited resources and workload. A review of the episode criticized how quickly the rescue was resolved, given the risks the story had established.
