76ers and Flyers Unveil New Arena Plans for 2030

Philadelphia's professional basketball and hockey teams, the 76ers and Flyers, have unveiled initial exterior renderings for a new, privately funded arena planned for South Philadelphia. The venue, scheduled to open in 2030, will be built on the site of the former Spectrum, the original home for both franchises. The project is a 50/50 partnership between Harris Blitzer Sports Entertainment, which owns the 76ers, and Comcast Spectacor, owner of the Flyers. The new arena is designed to offer a next-generation fan experience and will also serve as the home for Philadelphia's incoming WNBA expansion team. Renderings showcase an exterior inspired by the Spectrum's architecture, featuring stacked, cantilevered bands. The design includes more than a half-acre of outdoor space with fan plazas and food and beverage options, as well as a prominent staircase intended to echo the iconic steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, popularized by the film "Rocky." Officials emphasized the project's economic impact, projecting it will create nearly 15,000 jobs and generate approximately $6 billion in economic activity over the next decade.
