53 Stranded Indians Reach Kathmandu Amid Nepal Floods

A group of 53 Indian nationals stranded on the Chinese side of the Nepal-China border reached Kathmandu on Friday, August 28, as India intensified efforts to locate and assist hundreds of its citizens caught in the aftermath of devastating flash floods in Nepal. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the safe arrival of the group, which included 37 individuals from Maharashtra who had been in Tibet while returning from the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrimage. The flash floods, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Lhende River along the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, sent a massive surge of water and debris through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems.
