Zuckerberg buys historic Irish castle estate

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have purchased Strancally Castle, a historic 19th-century Gothic-style estate in County Waterford, Ireland, for an undisclosed sum estimated between 20 million and 30 million euros. The transaction for the 440-acre property, located on the banks of the River Blackwater, was completed several weeks ago, according to a spokesperson for Zuckerberg who confirmed the purchase on August 21, 2026. The castle, built around 1830, was sold by Michael and Giancarla Alen-Buckley, who owned the estate for 25 years and undertook a full restoration in the early 2000s. In a statement, the couple said they leave "fondly" and are grateful for the chance to restore Strancally. They expressed delight that the new owners intend to continue investing in the home and grounds in a sustainable manner. A spokesman for Zuckerberg stated the family is "excited to continue caring for this historic home and look forward to spending time in Ireland." The spokesman clarified that Zuckerberg and his family will continue to reside in the United States and will use the castle when conducting Meta business in Ireland.
