Zelenskyy proposes reciprocal energy ceasefire and trilateral talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready for a reciprocal energy ceasefire with Russia if Moscow stops striking Ukrainian energy and civilian infrastructure, and proposed a trilateral meeting involving Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to address the core disputes of the war. Zelenskyy spoke on Tuesday after a 40-minute meeting with Trump on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. He said the talks were positive and productive, and that both Washington and Kyiv want the war ended before winter. "We are ready for an energy ceasefire if the Russians do not strike our energy infrastructure," Zelenskyy said, adding that the proposed truce should cover electricity, heating and water supplies. Zelenskyy said Trump did not ask Kyiv to stop attacking Russian energy infrastructure unilaterally. He said Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to convey Kyiv's proposal to Moscow, and that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in New York.
