Xi tells BRICS summit China ready to advance Middle East peace

Chinese President Xi Jinping declared at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi that China is ready to work with fellow BRICS members to advance peace and stability in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. Speaking on Saturday, Xi stated that the ongoing war between Iran and the United States, which began on February 28, has caused serious losses to people across the region and does not serve the common interests of the international community. The Chinese president characterized the BRICS cooperation mechanism as the world's most influential platform for the Global South. He called on member states to collectively oppose violations of other countries' sovereignty and interference in their internal affairs, and to reject all forms of protectionism. Xi urged the bloc to uphold true multilateralism, lead global governance reform, and amplify the unified voice of emerging economies. The summit in New Delhi is also seeking reconciliation between Iran and the United Arab Emirates over the Gulf. Leaders attending include Russian President Vladimir Putin, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyen.
