Xi Jinping to visit US September 23 to 25 for Trump summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25, 2026, at the invitation of President Donald Trump, China's Foreign Ministry announced on Monday. Xi is scheduled to arrive in Washington on September 23, with the two leaders expected to hold their main summit talks on Thursday, September 24. It will be Xi's first trip to the United States since 2023 and the second meeting between the two heads of state this year, following Trump's visit to Beijing in May. Trump plans to personally receive Xi on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews, a rare airport reception, according to a US official and earlier reporting by the South China Morning Post. Trump will also host a state dinner for the Chinese leader in Washington. According to Politico, citing people familiar with the arrangements, tech executives including OpenAI's Sam Altman, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, Qualcomm's Cristiano Amon and Apple's Tim Cook are expected to attend. The agenda is expected to cover trade and tariffs, Iran, Taiwan and artificial intelligence. Trump said on Sunday that he planned to discuss almost everything with Xi.
