WTA Finals Moves to Charlotte for 2027-2029

The Women's Tennis Association announced on Wednesday that its season-ending WTA Finals will move to Charlotte, North Carolina, for a three-year period from 2027 to 2029. The tournament will be held at the Spectrum Center, the home arena of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. The move marks a significant shift for the tour's flagship event, which will now be operated directly by the WTA itself. WTA Chair Valerie Camillo made the announcement alongside Charlotte Sports Foundation CEO Will Pitts. Camillo stated the WTA will take operational ownership of the Finals, moving away from a traditional host-promoter model. "We're taking control of this event. We're taking control of the creation of the revenues and the controlling of the expenses and the delivery of the entire thing," Camillo said. "And that allows us to control our own destiny." The decision follows the conclusion of a hosting agreement with the Saudi Tennis Federation, which had staged the event in Riyadh for the 2024 and 2025 editions. The 2026 Finals will be held as an interim event in Indian Wells, California, from November 7 to 14. The WTA cited ongoing regional conflict as a factor in not renewing the Saudi deal.
