World Launches Self-Custodial Financial App in 150 Countries

Published 18 September 2026

World, the digital identity and cryptocurrency project formerly known as Worldcoin, has launched World Money, a self-custodial financial application combining stablecoin payments, digital asset trading, and rewards. The rollout began on September 17, 2026, and is available in more than 150 countries, though specific features and eligibility vary by jurisdiction. The launch separates World's services into two dedicated applications. The World ID App will handle identity verification and credentials, while World Money will manage wallets, payments, and other financial functions. Existing users of the World App and World ID App can use their current accounts with World Money. World Money is operated by Tools for Humanity, the company cofounded by Alex Blania and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The application allows users to hold supported digital assets, send stablecoins and other tokens to recipients using World usernames, and trade assets through integrated exchanges. It supports balances in eight currencies and includes portfolio tracking, transaction histories, and price alerts.
