Woman Recovers N1.64m After Viral Appeal to Pastor Eze's Church

Published 12 September 2026

A Nigerian woman has recovered N1,640,200 she mistakenly transferred to an account linked to Pastor Jerry Eze's Streams of Joy International church after her public appeal on social media prompted a swift refund. Sandra Okpara, who described herself as a single mother of two, posted a viral video on Friday, September 11, 2026, explaining the erroneous transfer and pleading for help to trace the funds. Okpara stated the money was not hers and was intended for payments to other individuals who were already contacting her about the funds. She said she had participated in the church's online prayer program earlier in the day, made an offering, and then attempted to transfer N1,640,200 to her own Zenith Bank account to purchase a voucher. Instead, she mistakenly selected the church's account for the transaction. "This money is not my money. I cannot do an offering of 1,640,200. Please help me trace the accounts," Okpara said in her video appeal. She explained that after discovering the mistake, she first contacted Zenith Bank but was unable to recover the money. She then reported the issue to Moniepoint, where she was told a court order would be required for recovery.
