Wimbledon restricts influencers after US Open issues
Wimbledon officials have announced plans to adopt a more restrictive approach to content creators and influencers at the tournament, aiming to prevent disruptions similar to those experienced at the recent US Open. The All England Club will not introduce a dedicated accreditation category for influencers or content creators for the 2027 championships. The decision follows controversy at the US Open, where organizers credentialed approximately 100 influencers and content creators, double the number from the previous year. This increased presence led to several incidents, including spectators in a suite being admonished by a chair umpire for filming during a point and a viral video showing an influencer using a ring light while play was underway. Players have voiced concerns about the impact of such activities on match etiquette and concentration. Naomi Osaka, who competed at the US Open, stated that while she sees potential benefits in influencers making the sport popular, there must be better management and adherence to the sport's etiquette.
