Wilson, Plum Out of FIBA World Cup; Citron, Iriafen Added

USA Basketball announced Monday that WNBA stars A'ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum will not compete for the United States at the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Berlin, citing health reasons for both players. The withdrawals, confirmed just days before the tournament begins, represent a significant blow to the American roster as it chases a fifth consecutive world title. In response, the federation has added Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron and forward Kiki Iriafen to the team. Plum's absence follows a season largely derailed by injury. The 32-year-old guard, who was traded from the Los Angeles Sparks to the Phoenix Mercury in August, has been limited to 17 games due to lower-body issues. She appeared in only five games after the trade and has since been ruled out for the remainder of the WNBA season. Her withdrawal from the national team provides additional time for recovery. Wilson's decision was more unexpected. The four-time WNBA MVP and Las Vegas Aces star has appeared in 37 games this season and has been a leading candidate for league honors.
