William Jewell College Player Dies After Game Medical Emergency

William Jewell College running back MicahJo Barnett died Saturday after suffering a medical emergency on the sideline during the team's season-opening football game. The junior was experiencing seizure-like symptoms when paramedics transported him to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The medical episode occurred during the first quarter of the Division II contest against Fort Lewis College, played on William Jewell's campus in Liberty, Missouri. Barnett, who had already scored a touchdown in the game, collapsed on the sideline with 4 minutes and 32 seconds remaining in the quarter. Paramedics from the Liberty Fire Department responded at approximately 12:20 p.m.
