Will Levis to sign with Jets practice squad

Quarterback Will Levis is signing with the New York Jets practice squad, with veteran Bailey Zappe being released as a corresponding move, according to multiple reports published on September 22, 2026. The reported agreement brings the 27-year-old back into the NFL after the Tennessee Titans waived him at the end of August as they finalized their 53-man roster. The signing does not signal a change under center for New York. Geno Smith remains the Jets' starter, with rookie Cade Klubnik serving as his backup on the active roster. Levis adds an experienced arm to the practice unit as emergency depth behind the top two. Levis worked out for the Jets in early September alongside another quarterback before the team returned with an offer later in the month. He has not appeared in an NFL game since Week 18 of the 2024 season. A second-round pick out of Kentucky in 2023, Levis made 21 starts across his first two seasons in Tennessee, compiling a 5-16 record as a starter. He completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions over the 2023 and 2024 campaigns.
