Apple TV+'s comedy-horror series "Widows Bay" dominated the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, setting a record for the most wins by a comedy series in a single year with 14 total trophies. The series, which premiered in April, won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series and swept every category in which it was nominated during the televised ceremony on September 14, 2026. The victory marked a historic breakthrough for Apple TV+, which emerged as the most awarded platform at the ceremony with a total of 28 or 29 trophies, surpassing longtime leaders HBO Max and Netflix. "Widows Bay" broke the previous comedy record of 13 wins set by "The Studio" in 2025. Matthew Rhys achieved a historic milestone by winning two lead acting awards at a single ceremony: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for "Widows Bay" and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for "The Beast in Me." This makes him the first male performer to win the lead actor Emmy in all three genres: comedy, drama, and limited series.
