White House Game Sparks Tetris Copyright Concern
The White House launched an online arcade featuring six browser-based games on Thursday, September 3, 2026, including a game titled "Build the Wall" that closely resembles the classic puzzle game Tetris. The Tetris Company, which owns the rights to the iconic game, has publicly stated it was not involved in the creation of "Build the Wall" and is taking the matter of copyright infringement seriously. The game "Build the Wall," also subtitled "Zombie Border Siege," tasks players with stacking falling blocks to construct a barrier and prevent a "zombie horde" or "foreign invaders" from crossing the U.S.-Mexican border. Unlike Tetris, completing lines of bricks does not clear them from the screen; instead, the wall grows. If the blocks stack to the top, the game ends with a "BORDER BREACHED" message. The game's theme aligns with President Donald Trump's policy goals regarding border security. In response to the game's release on the White House's official website, The Tetris Company issued a statement emphasizing its core values. "At Tetris we believe in the power of connection and bringing people together, not dividing them," the company stated on social media.
