West Bank demolitions displace up to 180 in Janba

Israeli forces demolished 24 homes in Janba, in the southern West Bank, on Wednesday, September 23, displacing about 176 to 180 people, including 85 children, according to accounts citing an Israeli rights group and a report from the village. The operation also destroyed agricultural structures, solar panels and water tanks, the accounts said. Separately, forces demolished the family home of detainee Dawwas Hassoun in Beit Imrin before dawn Thursday, September 24, according to local sources. In Janba, part of the Masafer Yatta area south of Hebron, residents were left searching through debris and gathering belongings after the demolitions. The reported displacement figures differ slightly: one account put the number at about 176, while another described around 180 people as homeless. Both gave the number of children affected as 85. The figures largely trace to the same rights-group tally, while a correspondent who visited the community reported seeing families among the rubble. The demolitions included 24 residential structures, along with 16 agricultural structures, 16 solar panels and 14 water tanks, according to figures attributed to the Israeli human rights group B'Tselem.
