Weinstein faces sentencing for 2006 assault conviction

Harvey Weinstein is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in Manhattan for his 2025 conviction of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley in 2006. Prosecutors have said they will seek a 20-year prison term; the conviction carries a maximum sentence of 25 years. The court’s sentence has not yet been reported. The sentencing follows years of legal proceedings and a retrial after New York’s highest court overturned Weinstein’s earlier conviction. A jury in 2025 found him guilty of first-degree criminal sexual act for assaulting Haley, a former television production assistant. The same jury acquitted him of a separate charge involving Kaja Sokola and could not reach a verdict on an allegation by Jessica Mann. Mann’s charge was tried again, but a jury deadlocked in May 2026. Manhattan prosecutors later dropped it rather than pursue a fourth trial, saying Mann could not endure testifying again. That decision left the Haley conviction as the matter before the court for sentencing. Haley testified at two trials about the assault. Her lawyer has said she plans to address the court at sentencing. Weinstein’s spokesperson has also said Weinstein plans to speak.
