Waymo Expands Autonomous Ridehailing to 3 New U.S. Cities

Waymo has expanded its fully autonomous ridehailing service to Denver, San Diego, and Tampa, bringing the Alphabet-owned company's total operational footprint to 14 U.S. cities. The launches, which began welcoming the first public riders on September 2, mark a significant step in the company's rapid scaling of its driverless taxi network. The rollout is being conducted gradually. Tens of thousands of residents in each new market had already signed up for the service, and Waymo is inviting them to ride on a rolling basis over the coming weeks before eventually opening the service to all users. In Denver, the initial service area covers approximately 60 square miles, including neighborhoods from Cory-Merrill to North Washington and destinations like Coors Field, Ball Arena, and Empower Field at Mile High. Service in San Diego spans about 50 square miles from Logan Heights to Pacific Beach. Tampa's service area details were also part of the launch. Riders in Denver and San Diego are among the first to use Waymo's newest vehicle, the Ojai, a van-like electric robotaxi built by Zeekr.
