Washington Post ordered to reinstate Attiah with back pay

Published 24 August 2026

Journalist Karen Attiah has won her wrongful termination case against The Washington Post, with an independent arbitrator ordering her immediate reinstatement along with full back pay and benefits. The ruling, made by private arbitrator Sarah Miller Espinosa, found that the newspaper lacked good and sufficient cause to fire Attiah in September 2025 over social media posts she made following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The dispute centered on posts Attiah made on Bluesky in the days after Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
