Warring changes profile amid reported Congress leadership decision

Published 1 October 2026

Amrinder Singh Raja Warring changed his X profile to identify himself as a former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president, as reports said the Congress high command had decided to replace him. The party had not formally announced a successor, leaving both Warring’s status and the next state unit chief unresolved. Party sources cited in reports said the high command had informed Warring of its decision. The accounts said Vijay Inder Singla, a former Punjab minister and Congress Working Committee member, had emerged as a leading contender. Other names discussed included former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh, former MLA Rana KP Singh and Raja Sansi MLA Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria. Warring did not confirm that he had resigned or would leave the post. Asked about speculation over his position, he told reporters, “I don’t want to comment on anything. I will let you know when the time is right.” He also said some matters were internal. One report said he had resigned, but that claim was not corroborated by the other accounts, and no formal announcement confirming his departure was reported.
