Vikings Start Wentz at QB as Murray Remains in Concussion Protocol

The Minnesota Vikings have named Carson Wentz as their starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, with Kyler Murray ruled out as he continues to recover from a concussion suffered in the season opener. Vikings coach Kevin OConnell announced the decision on Friday, stating that Murray, who was placed in the NFL concussion protocol after an illegal hit in Week 1, has made progress but will not be ready for the Week 2 matchup. Murray, who signed with the Vikings after being released by Arizona, was hit in the head by Green Bay safety Javon Bullard during the first quarter of Minnesota's 39-22 victory over the Packers. He was evaluated for a concussion and has been a limited participant in practice throughout the week. OConnell expressed confidence that Murray will clear the concussion protocol early next week and could return for the Vikings' game at Tampa Bay on September 27. Wentz, 33, stepped in for Murray during the opener and threw three touchdown passes without an interception, leading the Vikings to a comeback win after trailing 22-10 in the third quarter. He completed 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards and posted a 123.5 passer rating.
