The makers of the Rajinikanth-led sequel Jailer 2 have announced that Bollywood actor Vidya Balan will join the film's ensemble cast, playing a character named Kantha. The announcement was made by production house Sun Pictures on September 20, 2026, through a character introduction teaser video. The brief clip introduces Kantha with a commanding presence, showing her descending a staircase while holding a cigarette. In the teaser, she states, "Once you have come here, you can't simply leave without listening to what we say." The promotional material establishes her as a formidable figure within the film's world, though specific plot details about her role remain undisclosed. One report described her as one of the antagonists in the sequel. Balan's casting marks a significant Tamil film role for the actor, whose last appearance in a Tamil production was a cameo in the 2019 film Nerkonda Paarvai. She joins a growing list of new additions to the Jailer franchise, which have been revealed through a series of character teasers in recent days. These include Malayalam actor Suraj Venjaramoodu as the gangster Dileep and actor SJ Suryah as the stylish Bodhi Kalpak.
