Varma and Suri announce gangster film about Dawood-Rajan split

Filmmakers Ram Gopal Varma and Mohit Suri have announced a new co-production, a crime film exploring the split between gangsters Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan. Varma, in a social media post on September 13, 2026, revealed the project is set during the aftermath of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts and involves Indian intelligence agencies. He described the collaboration as blending his signature crime elements with Suri's romantic storytelling. Varma stated the film's story is set in the times of the Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan split, due to a man called Sautya, and how Indian intelligence agencies were involved in later proceedings leading to key events after the 1993 blasts. He praised Suri's vision, saying the director brought a tremendous flair for emotional music and ultra-realistic action to the script. Varma initially teased the joint venture by posting a picture with Suri, describing it as cooking together a love dish full of gangster curry. Suri confirmed the collaboration in his own post, calling it a full-circle moment from watching Varma's films to now working with him.
