Vance Defends Trump Revoking White House Access for Three Outlets

Vice President JD Vance on Monday defended President Donald Trump's decision to revoke White House access for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, telling reporters the move was about basic fairness rather than a ban on reporting. Speaking to reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews before departing for a campaign trip to North Carolina, Vance argued the three outlets had lost only special access and could still cover the administration. Trump announced the ban in a Truth Social post on Friday, describing it as effective immediately and citing reporting he called fake news. He also criticized MS NOW's recent name change from MSNBC and referenced an $8 million government subscription arrangement with Politico under the Biden administration, calling it corruption. In a follow-up post on Monday morning, Trump wrote that the White House was not assaulting the free press but rather targeting what he described as fake news that had grown out of control. The White House subsequently deactivated access badges for journalists from the three organizations, preventing them from entering the grounds to file reports.
