Vaas set to join Delhi Capitals as fast bowling coach

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas is set to join the Delhi Capitals as their fast bowling coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League season, replacing Munaf Patel in the role. The 51-year-old has already attended the franchise's preparatory camp and trials in New Delhi, though an official announcement from the team is still pending. The appointment is part of a major overhaul of the Delhi Capitals' coaching staff following a disappointing 2026 campaign. The franchise finished sixth in the league with seven wins and seven losses, failing to qualify for the playoffs for a second consecutive year. In response, the team has restructured its backroom setup, with former India captain Sourav Ganguly set to take over as head coach from Hemang Badani. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will join as assistant coach, and veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has been brought in as the spin-bowling coach. Vaas brings extensive international and coaching experience to the role. He played 111 Tests and 322 One Day Internationals for Sri Lanka, claiming 355 and 400 wickets respectively. He was a key member of the Sri Lankan squad that won the 1996 Cricket World Cup.
