US Open Awards Final Wildcard to Kypson, Not Wawrinka

The US Open has finalized its men's singles wildcards for the 2026 tournament, and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka will not be among them. The final wildcard was awarded to American player Patrick Kypson, ending speculation that the retiring Swiss star would receive a direct entry into the main draw for his final Grand Slam appearance. Wawrinka, who is ending his 24-year professional career at the conclusion of the 2026 season, had publicly requested a wildcard for the US Open in mid-July. "I have requested a wild card for the US Open. I hope to play there for the last time," the 41-year-old said at the time.
