US Medical Groups Issue Vaccine Guidance for Flu, COVID, RSV
A coalition of leading U.S. medical organizations published its own vaccine guidance for influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, seeking to provide clear, science-based recommendations amid a gap in federal advice. The groups said they aimed to ease public confusion caused by the absence of updated vaccine recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has been disrupted by policy shifts and legal battles. The coalition includes the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. They worked with the Vaccine Integrity Project at the University of Minnesota to review the latest scientific evidence. Their guidance, published online and in the Journal of the American Medical Association, recommends an annual influenza shot for everyone six months and older, updated COVID-19 vaccines for healthy adults, young children, and pregnant women, and RSV immunizations for older adults, pregnant women, and infants.
