Universal Opens Fast Furious Coaster Amid Noise Complaints

Published 17 September 2026

Universal Studios Hollywood officially opened its new Fast Furious Hollywood Drift roller coaster on September 16, 2026, marking a significant expansion of the franchise's theme park presence. The high-speed attraction, which reaches 72 miles per hour, features ride vehicles that rotate 360 degrees to simulate drifting, along with four launches and multiple inversions across 4,100 feet of track. The coaster is modeled after cars from the film series, including the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX7, Nissan Skyline GTR, and Toyota Supra. The opening comes amid noise complaints from residents in nearby Toluca Lake, who have reported disturbances from rider screams during the coaster's testing phase. Roy P. Disney, a notable resident and Walt Disney's great-nephew, stated that the noise is disruptive and that his complaints have been ignored. Universal has scheduled a community meeting with residents for September 30 to discuss potential noise mitigation measures. Local neighborhood councils have adopted resolutions calling on Universal to address the noise, and a coalition of residents plans to gather to highlight the issue.
