UN warns Sudan humanitarian system could collapse within weeks

The United Nations warned Monday that Sudan's humanitarian system could collapse within weeks without immediate new funding, as severe shortages of shelter and relief supplies threaten millions of displaced people amid ongoing conflict and heavy rains. The International Organization for Migration, which manages a critical aid delivery network called the Common Humanitarian Pipeline, said current stocks of essential items could run out by the end of September. IOM Director General Amy Pope stated that the entire system is at risk. "We simply can't turn our back on the people of Sudan when they need us most amid raging conflict, increased displacement and the impact of heavy rain," she said. "The entire humanitarian system could collapse within weeks if we don't act now." The Common Humanitarian Pipeline, a shared logistics system for the UN and its partners, has reached 2.84 million people since July 2023. However, its reach has shrunk each year due to falling donations, from over one million people assisted in 2024 to 804,000 in 2025. So far in 2026, the pipeline has provided shelter supplies and emergency support kits to 330,000 people.
