UN report: Foreign networks fuel Sudan war

A United Nations investigation has found reasonable grounds to believe that foreign networks are supplying weapons, military technology, and mercenaries that are sustaining Sudan's brutal war and enabling attacks that may amount to war crimes. The report by the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan, made public on Thursday, details how transnational networks involving companies, intermediaries, and individuals operating in or through the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Chad, Libya, and Somalia have provided crucial support to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The investigation found that this external support has not brought greater protection for civilians but instead has led to increased attacks on homes, hospitals, schools, markets, and places of refuge. Civilians have paid the price, with more than 1,000 killed in drone attacks between January and May 2026 alone, according to figures cited in the report. The mission documented RSF strikes on a kindergarten, hospital, and displacement shelter, as well as Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) attacks on hospitals, markets, and civilian gatherings.
