UN picks five new non‑permanent Security Council members

The United Nations General Assembly has elected five new non-permanent members to the Security Council for a two-year term beginning in 2027. Austria, Kyrgyzstan, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago, and Zimbabwe were chosen by secret ballot on Wednesday to join the powerful 15-member body.
