Ukraine Prosecutor General Resigns Amid Corruption Investigation

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko submitted his resignation on September 7, 2026, amid a significant corruption investigation involving officials within his office. The move came after anticorruption agencies, the National AntiCorruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized AntiCorruption Prosecutors Office (SAPO), uncovered an alleged criminal organization. Investigators stated the group, formed in mid-2025, received regular bribes from fraudulent call centers in exchange for allowing them to operate without interference. The illicit funds were allegedly laundered through property purchases and other assets. NABU released recordings referring to a figure described as "the boss," who investigators indicated matches Kravchenko's patronymic and previous role as head of the State Tax Service. Kravchenko, who served as head of the State Tax Service from December 2024 to June 2025, has denied any involvement in protecting illegal call centers or using his position for illicit gain.
