Ukraine Drone Strike Hits Russian Arctic Gas Facility

Ukraine launched a drone attack deep into Russia's Arctic region on Wednesday, striking an industrial facility near Novy Urengoy and causing a fire, according to Russian officials. The strike, reported to be the longest-range attack of the conflict, targeted a critical part of Russia's natural gas infrastructure. Russian regional authorities confirmed that air defenses repelled the drone, but falling debris ignited a fire at an industrial site. No casualties were reported, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Ukraine's Special Operations Forces claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that drones hit gas condensate processing plants in both the Purov district and Novy Urengoy. These facilities are located in the Yamalo-Nenets region, a major hub for Russian natural gas production operated by companies including Gazprom and Novatek. Ukrainian entities indicated the drones traveled more than 3,000 kilometers to reach their targets, marking a significant expansion of Ukraine's operational reach within Russian territory.
