UK Pledges €116 Million for Ukraine Air Defense

The United Kingdom has pledged a new military aid package worth €116 million (approximately £100 million) to bolster Ukraine's air defense capabilities as the country prepares for intensified Russian attacks this winter. The announcement, made by the UK government on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, includes crucial equipment such as Patriot missiles, air defense interceptors, large-calibre artillery rounds, and drones. This significant contribution will be channeled through NATO's Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a mechanism designed to allow allies to finance urgent weapons and equipment identified by Ukraine. Deliveries of the new package are expected to arrive before the onset of winter, aiming to strengthen Ukraine's defenses against what officials describe as Russia's preparation to "use winter as a weapon" through continued attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure. UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting, who is set to co-chair his first meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Ramstein, stated that the package delivers on promises made during recent visits to Kyiv.
