UK Mayors to Gain Power to Overrule Councils on Planning

Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced on August 22, 2026, a set of proposals that would grant regional mayors across the United Kingdom new powers to overrule local councils on planning decisions and to greenlight large-scale developments.
