Uganda's military chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced his intention to run for president in 2031, intensifying a long-running succession debate in the East African nation. The 52-year-old son of President Yoweri Museveni made the declaration in a series of posts on the social media platform X late on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, stating, "I will stand for the highest office in the land in 2031. And we will win by the grace of Almighty God." He also predicted he would secure 90 percent of the vote with his father's support.
