Uganda Ebola outbreak declared over
The World Health Organization and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention declared Uganda's Ebola outbreak over on August 27, 2026, after the country completed 42 consecutive days without a new confirmed case. The milestone, which represents twice the upper limit of Ebola's incubation period, was reached following the discharge of Uganda's last patient, an imported case, on July 16, 2026. Uganda officially declared the outbreak on May 15, 2026, after detecting cases of the Bundibugyo virus strain. The country recorded a total of 20 confirmed cases, including 15 imported from the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.
