UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje is undecided about his future in mixed martial arts, citing injuries and the need for family and business discussions. In a recent interview, Gaethje stated he will not fight again in 2026 due to a deep bone bruise in his knee and a hand injury that still prevents him from punching. He emphasized that his recent championship victory at UFC Freedom 250 was a career peak, but the decision to retire or continue requires careful consideration. "I've fought twice this year, I have deep bone bruise in my knee, I can't punch with my hand still so I really need to recover and I know for a fact I won't fight again this year," Gaethje said on the MightyCast YouTube channel. "I haven't made a decision, I don't know whether I will return." Gaethje, 37, said he relies on input from his parents, siblings, and coaches for such a significant choice. He also views his career through a business lens, indicating that financial and contractual conversations will influence his path forward. Separately, Gaethje has been active in political campaigning.
