UEFA Suspends FIFA Boycott Threat Amid Legal Action

Published 26 August 2026

European football's governing body UEFA has provisionally suspended its threat to boycott FIFA competitions after receiving guarantees that a controversial plan to sell commercial rights will not be revived, even as it escalates legal action against FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The dual moves, announced during meetings in Monaco this week, mark a significant but fragile de-escalation in a crisis that has fractured the sport's leadership. The dispute centered on the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, announced on July 28, which would have created a subsidiary to manage commercial rights for major tournaments including the World Cup.
