Ubisoft Joins Xbox Disc-to-Digital Program

Microsoft's Xbox Disc-to-Digital program, which allows players to convert physical game discs into digital licenses, has seen significant expansion with the addition of Ubisoft's supported titles. This move bolsters the program's library, bringing the total number of compatible games to nearly 1,500, according to community tracking efforts. The Disc-to-Digital initiative, currently in a testing phase for Xbox Insiders, enables users to attach digital rights to their accounts by inserting a compatible physical disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S console. Once licensed, players can download, stream, or play the game without needing the disc. The digital license remains tied to the account even if the physical disc is later sold or given away, and cloud saves are preserved. Initially, several major publishers, including Ubisoft, Sega, Square Enix, and Bandai Namco, were reportedly not participating in the program, leading to user disappointment and concerns about game preservation. Players attempting to convert discs from these publishers were met with messages indicating that the games were not participating in digital licensing.
