UAE President Reportedly Warned Netanyahu of Attack

Published 8 September 2026

United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approximately ten days before the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was preparing a major operation, according to an investigation published by Haaretz. The report alleges that bin Zayed personally contacted Netanyahu in late September 2023, conveying intelligence that Sinwar was planning a significant move that could lead to widespread bloodshed and destabilize the region. The alleged conversation, which reportedly lasted about 45 minutes, was based on information received by the UAE president from a Palestinian intermediary with contacts inside Gaza. This intermediary had relayed messages from Sinwar, who reportedly described his preparations as a "zilzal," or earthquake, and "the mother of all surprises." Bin Zayed urged Netanyahu to take the threat seriously and ensure Israel was prepared, warning that a major confrontation could endanger the Abraham Accords.
