Tyler Perry Sequel Premieres on Netflix

Published 10 September 2026

Tyler Perry's latest installment in the "Why Did I Get Married?" franchise, "Why Did I Get Married Again?", has premiered on Netflix, bringing back a familiar ensemble cast for a destination wedding in Lake Como, Italy. The film, released on September 9, 2026, marks the third outing for the group of friends and their complex relationships, with a significant gap of sixteen years since the previous sequel. The narrative centers on the upcoming marriage of Jasmine, daughter of Angela (Tasha Smith) and Marcus (Michael Jai White), to football player Wesley (Everett Osborne), son of newcomer Roselyn, portrayed by Taraji P. Henson. The reunion in Italy is intended to celebrate the couple but quickly becomes a backdrop for old secrets, new conflicts, and intergenerational drama. Returning alongside Perry, Smith, White, Scott, Rucker, and Leal, the film explores how the younger generation mirrors the older characters' past mistakes and relationship patterns. Key plot points involve the disruptive presence of Mike (Richard T. Jones), Sheila's ex-husband, who arrives with his much younger girlfriend, Regina. Regina is also the ex-girlfriend of Marcus Jr.
