Tyler Perry Announces Move to Puerto Rico to Slow Down

Filmmaker and entertainment mogul Tyler Perry announced plans to relocate to Puerto Rico in early 2027, marking a significant personal shift as he intends to scale back his famously demanding workload. The decision, revealed during a September 14 interview on "Today with Jenna Sheinelle," was motivated by his desire to spend more time with his 11-year-old son, Aman. "Yes, I am officially, you're the first to hear this, I am officially moving to Puerto Rico," Perry told interviewer Justin Sylvester. "Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I'm pulling back a whole lot." Perry, who turned 57 on September 13, explained that aging prompted the change. "It's time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in," he said. Perry shares Aman with his former partner, Gelila Bekele, and has previously spoken about wanting his son to have a normal childhood despite his own fame. The announcement does not indicate a complete retirement. Perry remains involved in multiple projects, including his long-running Madea franchise and productions through his partnership with Netflix.
