Two Ole Miss Student Deaths Under Investigation

Authorities in Oxford, Mississippi, are investigating the separate deaths of University of Mississippi students Aidan Hamilton, 18, and Robert Strang, 20. Officials have not announced either student’s cause or manner of death, and they have not established whether the cases are connected. Hamilton, a freshman from Colorado, was found at Stewart Hall, a men’s residence hall on campus, while Strang, a junior from Atlanta, was found at an off-campus residence, according to reports citing university and local authorities. The deaths were reported earlier in the week. Details about the circumstances of each death remain under investigation. Lafayette County Metro Narcotics said packaged kratom was found during both investigations. The agency said it had no confirmed information that kratom or another substance contributed to either death. Investigators are reviewing evidence, and toxicology results were pending in reports published September 24. Officials said testing can take weeks; state investigators were assisting local authorities and working to expedite the process.
